Yes. Everything is interchangeable between them. Very little if anything ever changed between any of the vn750 model years.
Like all Kawasaki Vulcan 750s, the alternator is located under the left engine cover and requires engine removal to access due to frame clearance issues. Modifications to solve this problem can be viewed at the related links below:

On a 2000 1500 Vulcan Classic. It's stamped on the *left* side of the crankcase - on the kickstand side. It's between the frame and the crankcase so you need to view it from an angle; looking from the front. Wipe it clean first and and bring a flashlight...
If your Vulcan is a US model an 85 will be a 700cc moter. due to tarrifs the US govt put on import bikes for that year, the 86 is the first year the Vulcan came as a 750cc because Kawasaki moved a plant into the US. The VN7xx's are the same basic bike from beginning to end of production, so simple answer is yes the 85 will fir into the frame of the 89. There are probably going to be some minor differances though, the brake pedal might be differant and on later models the master cylinder changed from the square to round. C
No. Frame number and engine number are two differrnt things )
Look into the space between the exhaust pipes on the right side of the bike at the rear of the engine. The engine number is stamped on the side of the engine block at the bottom. The serial number is on the bottom left of the engine. It is sorta behing the frame. difficult to see.
i suggest you get hold of a workshop repair manual as this job requires taking the engine out - not a job for a beginner! Unfortunately this is necessary because with the engine in place the frame clearance is inadequate to allow you to remove the stator cover and kickshift pedal - bloody stupid design issue
Kxo80ofe005158 engine number cant find a frame one can u tell me wat year
You will find the VIN number in the neck of the frame. Engine number, the vin is on the neck but as a dirt bike it may not have an engine #
NO and by the way don't you think kawasaki may have thought about what they were doing.
Frame number is located below gear shifter, slightly forward on bottom frame rail. Engine number is next to cylinder, exhaust side of engine, below exhaust
