Why did the Irish republic bomb Manchester in 1996?

It wasn't the Irish Republic that carried out the bombing. It was an illegal organisation called the IRA(Irish Republican Army) which sought the complete withdrawal of British forces from Northern Ireland. The organisation has now disarmed and abandoned its military ambitions. Its political counterpart, Sinn Fein, is now in Government and working with its former enemies to make the Northern Assembly work.

What countrys migrate to northern Ireland?

Due to the troubled history of Northern Ireland in the latter 20th century, the country saw little to almost no immigration from other parts of the world. In the past decade, from 2000 to 2012, with the ongoing success of the Peace Process and the freedom of movement of the borderless EU, a growing number of people from Poland and other eastern Europe nations have come to settle and work in Northern Ireland. Small numbers of Poles, Slovakians, Romanians and an even smaller Roma gypsy population have taken up residency although most use Northern Ireland as a place to work and save money before returning home. The next decade will tell how permanent these ethnic minorities have become. In terms of ethnicity, the population of Northern Ireland is almost entirely white (99.15%). 91% of people are Northern Ireland born, with 4.8% being born elsewhere in the UK and 2.3% being born in the Republic of Ireland. Irish Travellers accounted for 0.1% of the population. The largest non-white ethnic groups were Asians (0.4%), of which Chinese accounted for 60.7%, Indian for 23% and Pakistani for 9.8% of the total. Black people of various origins accounted for 0.06% of the population of Northern Ireland and people of mixed ethnicity accounted for 0.2%.

Did the special boat service ever service in northern Ireland during the 1960's and 1970's?

Yes they did; it was mainly covert observation work.

Is there still an ongoing battle between Irish Catholics and Irish Protestants?

Yes, but the "Battle " is now about jobs and housing. The history of Northern Ireland is one of religious warfare, with the Catholic majority fighting the Protestant minority.Today the Ulster counties of Northern Ireland are coming to grips with the fact that they are far behind the rest of Europe in education and industrial training/employment. Irish people are finally starting to realise that they have been killing each other for all most 150 years and nothing has been solved/resolved.In Canada, where I live, Irish people have proven that they CAN get along with each other, and forget about who is a mick or a Prod. Being out of Ireland also gets people to look around and see that they are no different than all the other tribes that inhabit the earth.Having to struggle in a new country takes most of their energy, and leaves little time for stupid and pointless arguing about religion. Of course, Canada does put much less emphasis on "where did you come from" than the USA does.Only a foreigner would write that. The Catholics were a MINORITY in the North, and were heavily opressed by Protestants.Answerthe conflict is now about perceptions of power and wealth, and territory! the majority in northern Ireland is Protestant, not catholic, and they feel that catholic areas receive preferential treatment in economic and political matters. this is partly true, but it is necessary to redress many years when the balance was the other way. much of the hatred, and there is very real hatred, is between the disadvantaged sections of both communities, who have been told that "the other side" is taking "their" jobs, schools etc. it isn't going to change very quickly. AnswerIn Northern Ireland the problem is less about religion these days and more about politics. For the vast majority of the island of Ireland there is no aminosity between Catholic and Protestant. I'm Catholic in Cork and went to a Protestant school, it is a non-issue. Plenty of my friends are Protestant, Catholic, Methodist, Presbyterian, New Agers, etc.Correct Answer -Hey! I live in Northern Ireland and have for my whole life just outside of Belfast in a town called Carrickfergus. Yea well here is an up to date answer! =Northern Irish Troubles are now over ended last year 2007 when Sinn Fein and the DUP decided to work together! There is no Catholic and protestant trouble but there still is a lot of stereotypes and abuse etc.. for both sides. Northern Ireland is not far behind in the education system because we are above England, Scotland and Wales and The Republic of Ireland in National Examinations and we are proven to be more intelligent. Northern Ireland has changed a lot and many would be impressed to see the changes! Belfast is now just as modern and as up to date with London or Dublin. So write back.

How did the Irish - British conflict begun And who was involved and why?

This is a hard one and it can invoke passioned responses depending who you talk to. Essentially England invaded Ireland, took over land, government etc and the Irish were left to work as servants or starve during the famine in the late 1800s approx 5 million people died during this time. The struggle between the two countries has been going on now for over 800 years. As part of the Anglo Irish treaty Ireland was split into two countries the south (and larger part) is the Republic of Ireland and the six northern counties are under English Rule and known as Northern Ireland. There are still problems to this very day with regular flare ups between loyalists (English) and Repbulicans (Irish) but I like to believe that peace will be possible here and dream that one day Ireland will be united once again (though that may take a long long time)

Did the peace process spread to the Republic of Ireland?

The troubles were almost exclusively confined to Northern Ireland, so it didn't really need to spread to the Republic of Ireland as such. During the course of the troubles there were incidents in the Republic of Ireland and in Britain, but the centre of the problem lay in Northern Ireland. Once the peace process was established there, things improved. The Irish and British governments were part of the peace process insofar as they helped the parties in Northern Ireland to work together and gave them support in many other ways.

What are relations like between northern Ireland and the republic of Ireland?

Relations between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland are very good. Its difficult to remember back when relationships would have been sour between the North and South - possibly before 1980's. Today both governments of Northern Ireland and the Republic work together to provide a better future for those in Nothern Ireland and the surrounding border counties located in the Republic. From funding community projects to the two police forces on both side of the border working with each other to fight crime.

Will an iPhone with a Dual sim from china work in Ireland?

If you unlock it by jailbreaking it will. Jailbreaking alone does not allow you to use another carrier's SIM card in the iPhone. It has to be jailbroken and then unlocked. Once you jailbreak it then Cydia will be on the device and then you go in to Cydia and run Ultrasn0w to unlock it

What is policing northern Ireland?

The Police Service of Northern Ireland. It was formerly called the Royal Ulster Constabulary, which had a reputation for being one of the world's most dangerous police forces to work in. The police service was renamed in 2001. It was originally going to be called the Northern Ireland Police Service, but this had the unfortunate acronym "NIPS".
