I'm no pro so, please excuse me .It sounds funny but the function of the transmission has little to do with the engine starting or timing of sparks. Check trans fluid if you haven't already. Take to [aamco, ect.] for free check -up...to get better understanding of things.
its possible to do anythign, as long as you wanna put the work into it.. if its the same motor its easier...make sure you do all the pedals, and you will have to swap the computer too
i belive it is but just check the model number on the tranny and make sure they match just incase im wrong yes so it the entire engine assembly
if automatic first install a extra transmission cooler, and use syntheic ATF.You can turbocharge engine to make it faster.
Number 1 cylinder at top dead centre on compression take off distributor cap make sure that roater is on number one cylinder if it dont fire up turn roater 180 degrees. 93 ford probe does not have timing marks
1989 to 1997 ( according to Answers.com )
look up the engine cylinder numbers, then look at the front of your engine, or on the intake manifold. There will be a series of raised numbers, (you may have to clean off some grease), this is your timing order. Make sure you have the correct sparkplug wires going to the correct plug from your distributor.(make sure your distributor is mounted correctly) Jody
The problem could be the output speed sensor on the transmission or the speedo head it self. A scan tool would be helpful
could be a few things, start cheap- make sure the metal is still on the rotary button, and that the contacts are on the distributor cap. These go bad quite often. if all is good there ohm out the coil. If all ohm readings are in spec then it is probably the unit inside the distributor.
It sounds like the modulator is not letting the transmission shift up, make sure all vacuum lines are attached and transmission fluid is at the proper level, if no luck have it checked at a transmission shop.
your best bet would be to trade her in and get a real car
Yes, the 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine in a 1996 Ford Probe is an interference engine ( according to the Gates website , they make timing belts etc. )
No , according to the Gates website ( they make timing belts etcetera ) the 2.0 liter four cylinder engine in a 1997 Ford Probe ( IS AN INTERFERENCE ENGINE )
