If you put it in the resivoir only it will not harm the vehicle. After a while without being changed it can harm the breaking systems due to it passing thru all the metals it can create a bit of electricity. If you spill it on your paint it can eat it away
You can go get it done at a shop or you an even do it yourself. But in order to do it yourself you need to know what you are doing so you don't mess up your car & mess up your break fluids.
Stop driving your car asap.It means there is a brake fluid leak.Get your car towed to a mechanic.
Power steering fluid is completely different from brake fluid and NOT interchangable. Don't know your car but in most cases the "brake" light in the dash is a warning light to indicate you have a serious problem with your brakes. Suggest you get it fixed immediatly. Remember, your life depends on your brakes.
mess up things and brake things
If you run your car with the emergency brake on it will heat the car up.
If you fill your brake fluid up (im assuming you know how to do this) then pump your brakes. Let it set for awhile then check the fluid level, if it is low then check under the car. there would be fluid somewhere down the side of the car where the brake lines run. (on the ground or the actual wires might be wet.) If you are losing fluid but have no leak then it could possibly be leaking into the firewall. case-an-point if your losing fluid you have a leak.
I had the same problem. There is a small part in the rear axel that needs to be replaced/reset. It is a sensor. I was told I could do it myself, but didn't want to mess anything up so I took it to the dealer. $45 later, no brake light on. Check your brake fluid reservoir. On some vehicles, if they leak fluid out, the parking brake light comes on as a warning.
Yes. Brake fluid sucks up moisture like a sponge.
master cylinder holds the brake fluid, open it up and add brake fluid to the tank. Make sure you use NEW brake fluid and one that has not been laying around in someones trunk. Remember this what stops your car. Contaminated fluid is very bad for you and your brakes. Usually the master cylinder tank is white in color and sits on the master cylinder itself.
If you are looking for a reliable and cheap place to get some brake fluid because your brakes have not been up to par and needs brake fluid, then you should go to Brake and Stake Shop.
You open the hood, find the brake fluid reservoir, take the cap off and add DOT 3 brake fluid up to the full level.
Brake fluid has to be 'bled' out through the valves on your calipers one at a time it is important to have either a vacuum pump for this job or an assistant to manually pump the brakes to force out the old fluid. Using new clean fluid to keep the brake resevoir 'topped' up during the process will prevent air bubbles from being allowed into the system.
