Any cable operated control will stretch from wear over time or if excessive force is used.
Cable probably snapped
Place fingernails under outer edge of fuel door. Lift and push door towards the middle of the vehicle. This has always worked for me since the fuel door release stopped working correctly. You can acces the fuel door release cable from the inside of the trunk. Just remove the circular plastic cover inside the trunk nearest to the fuel door, pull the cable until the door releases. To fix this problem permanently you will need to tighten this cable.
This is done by removing the trim on the inside of the door. Then it is neccessary to remove the No1 service hole cover. Then one removes the door lock protector, the door handle protector, and detatch the control cable from the outside door handle. You then remove the door lock wire harness loops, and remove the lock from the door. Detach the old cable and reattach the new. and reverse the steps you just followed to reassemble the door.
By the light in the trunk of the car there is a hand sized panel. Inside there is a cable with some foam around it. Pull the cable and the door should pop open.
if both the inside and outside door handles work then the cable that opens the door automaticlyis jamed in the moter. Replace the auto open moter or like I did cut the cable and use the door manuly.the cable and auto moter is located under the trim on the passenger side in the rear hatch area
I believe they just unbolt from the outside of the door and if remote controlled you will have to take inside door panel off to get the cable out.
The cable between the latch and the handle may be broken or needs adjustement to shorten the cable so that the latch will fully release.
replace window regulator assembly.
The fuel door should just flip towards the front of the car,but in case you have one that locks there should be a cable inside the trunk that will release the fuel door.
First you take off the door panel screws in inside door pull then take plastic trim off of inside door handle pry between outside frame work plastic and that thin gap then pop the plastic clips that hold the door panel to frame( gasket scraper wrapped in tape) and then pry. Inside of door will be exposed to work on then GOOD LUCK
On the inside of the cable (handle side) they are 2 (i believe) clip releases. You have to feel around and push the clips in to get the cable to release from the bracket.
