It usually happens when you've either hit the nail or trapped it somehow - it's a bruise under the nail.
actually your toenail can stop growing due to toenail fungus or in some cases ingrown toenails. with the ingrown toenail the nail is actually growing but unfortunately its growing into your toe under the skin. toe nail fungus will cause discoloration and will in some cases cause the nail to completely stop growing. you should see a doctor asap both can require surgery if left untreated
The most active growing portion of the nail is the Lunula. The Lunula is the white lower part of your nail closest to your skin.
no
If the nail varnish happens to chip off and land in the food it can be dangerous considering some of the harmful chemicals in it.
you put it under nail polish
If you have a funky smell under your toenails it could be due to bacteria. Dirt and bacterial accumulate under the nail over time and when cut they release a bad odor. There could be several reasons you have a funky smell under your toenails. It could mean that they are just dirty or you may have a fungal infection.
Middle finger
a metal embry board with the tip. or if you don't have that, try a toothpick Most dirt under nails comes from digging things up with you nails. But the most common way to get dirt under your nails is scratching. When you take a bath a scratch, lets say your arm or something, the dead skin scraps off into your finger nails. So don't scratch with your nails. try using the back of your nails instead. But the reason why I crossed off "try a toothpick" is because you can damage your tissue that connects the nail to your finger if you accidentally jab further then under the nail. You can clean you nails with your own nails while taking a shower. In short, don't scratch with your nails because it causes dirt to form. Which is usually dead skin. And the best way to get rid of the dirt is to clean daily, cut your nails short so the nails cant collect dirt (not to short, it will hurt). Try using a nail filer ( I think that's what its called ) so the white stuff of the nail covers any dirt, and if your a girl use nail polish to cover it and fix it later.
your middle finger
Long nail are easily damaged, and can scratch or catch on material. Also, dirt can get under the nails (usually after doing a dirty job) which doesn't look nice.
Damage to the nail bed, usually. You may have hit or trapped the end of your finger a while back, and it's damaged the base of the nail. It should grow through with clear nail behind it.
