if vehicle rpm gauge stays steady at approx 55-60 mph its usually not the speed sensor jus hadit happen in my 2001 Jeep went nuts trying to troubleshoot it found it to be the neutral safety switch on the tranny 13 bucks at azone took ten min to switch

A 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee does "NOT" have a speedometer cable. It has an electronic speedometer with a built in motherboard. It receives its signsls from sensors on the transmission and the transfer case.

The one at end of transmission is output shaft speed sensor. My input sensor went bad but replaced both. Both sensors are the same. Fairly easy to change out. About $47.00 each at dealer.

The sensor is located in the tail shaft housing of the transmission (where the drive shaft attaches to the transmission). It screws into the housing and has a two wire plug on it. hope this helps
