Will going to a private school up your chances in the ivy league?

There are some rumors that having rich parents and going to a prestigious private school would increase your chances of being accepted into Ivy League schools, but it no longer works that way. Top colleges now look for more diversity, economically, socially and racially. To drown out the rumors, ivies are increasing the percentage of public school students they accept. So, in all honesty a private school will not increase your chances of getting accepted into ivy league universities. Hope this helps! =)

I go to a public school and I have 4.0 GPA with 2370 on my SAT and I'm also the president of my school's debate club, key club and I'm a varsity soccer player. I got accepted into Yale.
My sister goes to a private school and she has 3.97 (the studies are harder there) GPA with 2390 on her SAT and she's also an award winning violin player, president of the SADD club, founder of the school dance league and a Varsity Soccer player too! She got accepted into university of Pennsylvania.
University of Pennsylvania is an ivy league college too, but not as prestigious as Yale. You can see that going to private school didn't score her extra points over me.

It most likely would help your chances when you are applying to colleges. It does look good when you get good grades even at a school with high standards. Even if it does not help your chances much, it will definitely make you more prepared for college.
