First ensure that the wood is clean and not just built up with old wax and dirt. Yes then mayonaise will bring back the shine. I use it on a table of mine that has some dry spots due to some commercial cleaning oil that I used on an area which left it dull. The mayonaise does the trick everytime. In fact I will never use another polish on wood again.
