If you apply the Scotts Turf Builder with Halts Crabgrass Preventer before the lawn is out of winter dormancy then it could cause some damage to the grass. If your lawn is still dormant, but you want to apply crabgrass preventer now, Scotts does sell Halts without the fertilizer in it.
