Since 7/15/03, US Cellular will NOT activate a phone unless it is US Cellular-sourced. That merely means that it was originally sold by US Cellular or an authorized agent. It does NOT mean you have to buy the phone from a US Cellular store. You CAN buy a phone from a friend, eBay, or wherever, but it MUST be US Cellular-branded. Also, phones can be direct-purchased from some manufacturer's, most notably Motorola. They will ask you who you're carrier is, and ship the phone US Cellular-branded. These phones can be activated.

∙ 13y agoSprint cannot activate unlocked devices at all due to the fact that they use a CDMA network that does not use SIM cards and unlocked devices use a GSM network that do require a SIM card.

No. Sprint uses CDMA and PCS technology, while T-Mobile uses GSM, so the Sprint phone would be incompatible with the T-Mobile network. Plus, Sprint phones are generally locked to Sprint anyway, so you couldn't use it even if T-Mobile offered CDMA.

It depends on what type of phone it is, GSM, or CDMA. You can tell the difference between the two, fairly easily: GSM phones take a SIM card, while CDMA do not : If it's a GSM phone, AT&T would be a provider, as would T-Mobile. If it's CDMA, Verizon would be your best bet!
Can you use a Verizon phone and use the network sprint?
If the CDMA providers, like Sprint and Verizon unlock their phones so that they can be used on other CDMA networks, unfortunately, it doesn't mean that someone can just contact their provider and have them activate the phone on their network. The phones would have to be flashed with the appropriate image and then activated on the network. Where the problem comes in is if, for example, you have a Sprint phone that is unlocked and you want to activate on Verizon, but Verizon doesn't sell the same model of phone. What that means is that there is no Verizon image for that phone and therefore, no way for them to activate it because the phone's series of ESN numbers are not in their database. I believe that in the article you may have read, it stated "any compatible phone". The key word is "compatible" and that basically means that the phone would have to be the exact same model that the carrier sells. Typically, Sprint and Verizon rarely sell the same exact model. Additionally, none of the data features would work, like MMS messaging or accessing the internet. I'm afraid that people are thinking that using an "unlocked" CDMA phone on another CDMA network is going to be as easy as using a SIM-unlocked GSM phone on a different network, but I'm afraid that it really isn't going to be that way. You are much better off using a Verizon phone on the Verizon network and same with Sprint. Currently, if you want to activate a Verizon phone on the Sprint network or vice versa, it would have to be "cloned" and that is an illegal practice and if Sprint doesn't sell the phone, you can't clone it anyway cause there's no ESN to clone it to.

There is no technical reason why you would not be able to use a CDMA phone on any CDMA network, but in order to ensure that they make money, carriers will only allow ESNs (serial numbers) from their own phones to be activated. Everything worked right after activating which actually suprised me but I still had to flash virgin mobile firmware on it which makes it a virgin mobile phone. I think they need to ask questions before they let people tell you something that's just a down right wrong answer. With flashing and odin and mobile odin and a just a lunix emulator you can do a lot.
