There is technology in place that has already begun to make books obsolete. The Kindle, which has grown in popularity in the United States after Oprah featured it on her influential talk show, lets the user download books and read them off of a screen. However, the result is far closer to reading words off of a page than reading pixels off of a screen. If it becomes more popular, books will all be downloaded from internet sites such as Amazon.com, which is already allianced with the makers of the Kindle, and hard copies of books, found on the shelves of the library, bookstore, or an aisle in the supermarket, will become obsolete. Wi-Fi connections are needed to use the Kindle, and for some reason that has always been vague but is definitely connected to the way Wi-Fi is used in Canada, the Kindle is not able to be taken across the border. It does not work in Canada.
