It will not start with a broken timing belt
I think,You can'nt start engine if this happened.
If you can drive the car, the timing belt isn't broken. An engine will not start or run with a broken cam belt.
Engine will not start and run if the belt has broken.
If it i broken, your engine will not start. If it is worn, your engine may run rough.
No, it will not.
One way to tell if the timing chain is broken on your Nissan Altima is to see if it will start. If it starts, it is not the timing chain. You can also remove the distributor cap, have someone step on the gas while you watch the engine. If the rotor moves, it is not the timing chain.
If the timing belt is broken the vehicle will not start.
If the timing is off by a few degrees the engine can start but will run rough. More than a few (depending on the engine) it will not start.
Engine will not start and will turn over much faster than normal
If the timing belt has broken the engine will not start. If the belt broke you will have internal engine damage as this is an interference engine. The belt must be replaced every 60,000 miles. a quick way to verify if the belt is broken is to remove the distributor cap and turn the engine by hand. If the rotor does not turn the belt is broken. You can also remove the oil fill cap and look at the valve train. If you see no movement when the engine is turned by hand the belt is broken. Of course if the engine is locked up the belt is broken as the valves are hitting the pistons. quick way to confirm a
It all depends on how many teeth of the timing belt jumped. One or two and it would start but have no power. If the belt is broken it won't start at all. A zx2 is a non interference engine so if the timing belt was to break it wouldn't damage the engine. Look into the top of the engine through the oil filler cap with a flashlight while someone cranks the engine. If you can see movement then the belt isn't broken. I've never heard of an Escort jumping time although it can happen.
I wouldn't recommend it. The timing chain synchronizes all of the valves and pistons so that the valves for the right cylinder open at the proper time. If the timing chain breaks while the engine is running, you've got a really good chance of destroying your engine, and I do mean "destroying" your engine.
