Great question and the answer to this is very simple. LCD tvs last a lot longer than plasma and the pixels on the screen don't experience burning. Plasma tvs at some point the screen burns out and is now no longer wonderful anymore.
No because the LCD or plasma technology is relatively new. It also depends on the maufacturer. Panasonics plasma tv has a 100,000 lifespan versus 60,000 of an LCD. Plasma and LCD are not the same type of tv either.

lcd's are more durable than plasma. Lcd's offer good picture quality even in poor lighting. lcd is more power efficient than plasma. lcd's are lighter in weight. Plasma has slightly bigger screen size than lcd. I feel lcd is more effective with digital cable because it has higher image resolution than plasma.

I would get the plasma screen TV. They have a much better picture and they are much better to watch movies on than a LCD TV. They also cost less than the LCD TVs.

LCD is better for hd viewing and the colours wil be more bright on lcd but plasma has got a glass screen and the colours are a little bit dimmer but the picture is great for standard viewing aswell as hd viewing , i have a lcd and for standard viewing the upsetted me but a hd plasma i have to say is better than a lcd in my opinion
Plasma is better than LCD TV because of its excellent picture graphics,contrast ratios, reliability etc.
Plasma televisions are slightly more expensive than LCD televisions, but they are relatively quite close. However, plasma televisions aren't available smaller than 42 inches, so size is also something you should consider.
