I have a 1993 Honda Accord that would trigger a gas indicator lamp around 240 on the trip meter and that's w new wheel oil and a recent tune-up. For a while I couldnt figure it out what was robbing my mpg. Til I did a brake job and noticed the drain plug for the tranny was behind the wheel and was easily accessed. So along with my brake job I went ahead to the dealer and got Hondas DW1 Atf instead of taking a chance at hurting the transmission with other formulas. All I did was drain and add new fluid to the tranny and now the lamp triggers around 300. A very solid improvement..not only is the mpg better but so is acceleration power and ride..I can imagine a more stronger improvement for newer cars that can be flushed and can take advanced formulas like Royal Purples synthetic ATF..
