As long as you don't have any outstanding warrants or unpaid tickets, the answer is no. Usually you are given a ticket for expired tags and given an order to have your tags updated or arrange something with your DMV to get your vehicle registration in order.

You can go and get your tags renewed. It is illegal to drive with expired tags and you can get pulled over and ticketed.

Police pull over numerous amounts of people because of expired tags, so yes, you can and will get pulled over by the police for expired tags. yes it gives them a great excuse. its illegal you can be ticketed. Yes, it is often an indicator of other offences.
No! If you have all documentation on the car, but missing the tags only, it's just silly. You're asking for trouble, any time cops see a car without tags, they'll pull you over and issue you a citation. Get your tags ang drive without any concerns of being pulled over, which is a hassel you don't really need.
When an individual drives on expired tags in Maryland, there will not be a penalty fee. It is illegal to drive with expired tags, however. Registration renewal can be completed over the phone, by mail or online.
I AM currently going through this myself and yes they can keep it if you haven't paid for the tags (ex:license plate or registration). Whatever you do make sure you dnt get pulled over. I did the other day and got 3 tickets.smdh Be Careful
Not "statutes of limitations" as such - BUT - if you don't pay them you'll either find your license suspended or your tags revoked.
If I remember correctly, most if not all states require some form of insurance. In most cases only liability is required to satisfy the minimum financial responsibility requirement for a state. The consequences of driving without insurance can be severe. In some states if you are pulled over or have an accident (at fault or not), you can have your license suspensed/revoked, your vehicle registration suspended (you wouldn't be able to renew your tags), among other possible punishments.
