Northern England is tied culturally and economically to Quebec. Northern England relies on Quebec for much trade and they are from the same cultures.
Northern New England is tied culturally and economically to Canada. This is also the case for Western New York. Both regions are in close proximity to the border.
The line has to be drawn somewhere! Indiana is mostly in Eastern time zone with the exception of the counties near Chicago and the counties near Evansville. Illinois is in Central time. The reason is that Indiana is more closely tied economically to communities to the East than to the West. The counties in Indiana that are in Central time are more closely economically tied to communities to the south and west that are in Central time. Chicago is in Central time because it is economically tied to "farm country" to the south and west.

Tied aid is when the country giving the aid also benefits economically. This is more of an agreement than bilateral aid, but it may worsen a country.eg. Britain will keep The Ivory Coast's cocoa trade going if the proce of cocoa stays low

Atlantic Canada. By its proximity to Canada's easternmost provinces, New England is economically tied with the maritime provinces (that is, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island). Also, the French and English bilingual communities of Vermont are culturally tied with New Brunswick (an officially-bilingual province of Canada).

Politically, Europe has close ties to countries such as Canada, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand mainly because they were previous European countries' colonies. NATO is such an example of this politcal union. Its members include Canada, the US, and 26 European nations. Europe is also economically tied to these four nations, as well as socially tied (as many of these countries' immigrants are from Europe and vice versa, similar living conditions).
For somewhere to be largely dependent on the British economy for its own economic strength and possibly to use the same currency.
They wanted to hold on to the cotton revenues, which were over 50% of the exports of the USA. And slavery was the mainstayof the cotton industry.
