The biggest issue you will have is that you need to replace the transmission as well. A 2.8 and a small block have 2 different bolt patterns. those firebirds did come factory with a V8, so other than needing a transmission as well, dropping in a small block should go pretty easily. Good luck with the exhaust.
You will also need to put the V8 front springs in the car and possibly sway bar package also. For the whole handling package you should check out the complete suspension front to back including differential.
Yes, it will.
Chevy 350 LT1
No it will not.
Yes
Anything can be done with enough work. However after 1981, f bodies had chevy engines rather than the Pontiac. The Chevy trans will not bolt to the Pontiac block willingly.
only a Buick, olds or Pontiac engine will bolt to a Pontiac tranny as Chevy blocks have a different bolt pattern.
Does your Firebird have a Chevy or Pontiac motor in it?If it is a Pontiac motor, you will need an adapter from Summit or Jeg's.Also, it could be a different output shaft length and spline count.
Some Pontiacs came from the factory with Chevy engines. If this is the case on your 79 firebird, then the transmission will bolt up to a 350 Chevy. If the car came with a Pontiac engine, then the bolt pattern is different and would not bolt up.
