What was union goal during the civil war?

They wanted to try to reunite with the South while still abolishing slavery.

What effect did the civil war have on the United States and explain?

It ended slavery in the U.S. This happened because the Union, trying to end slavery, won the war. If there was no Civil war, then slavery would still be an issue in modern times.

Was slavery allowed in the north or the south?

At first, both, but later, the north didn't use slavery, but the south still did.

How did slavery impact America?

Slavery had a huge impact on American society, and it still has. Especially in the South of America was a lot of slavery. Black people were seen as inferior and white people really thought they were not capable of thinking. During the Civil War, the North was against slavery and the South wasn't. Many people died to fight for the abolishment of slavery. Finally slavery was abolished and black people were free. However, blacks were still seen as an inferior race. Also, the difference in the North and South can still be seen in America. As a black person you can often be called the N-word in Southern America.

Was slavery over when the civil war ended?

No. Some citizens in the border states (e.g. Kentucky, West Virginia) that sided with the North owned slaves. The Emancipation Proclamation only freed slaves in "still in rebellion" southern areas of the time. Yet, as obviously seen today, slavery in these states died out. African American slavery in the South was put to a stop largely by Civil War events and an amendment to the Constitution. But keep in mind that the Civil War did not stop slavery permanently. Worldwide- the US included- slavery still goes in various forms and it effects Africans and other ethnic groups as well. Today's modern slavery relies heavily on human trafficking in many cases. So, the Civil War in direct and indirect ways did lead (or contribute) to the end of the plantation slave era in the American South. It did not end the general slavery that still goes on (on a small scale) in the United States today.

What would life be like if the north had not come out victorious in the civil war?

I belive the south would have power and there would be more farm lands than industry lands. The south was and still has a farming agriculture. African Americans would still be slaves. And there would be many wars about ending slavery.

Where does slavery still exist?

No slavery does not still exist in the US today. Slavery was over in 1865 in the US { but it does still exist in different parts of the world} after the Civil War. Former President Lincoln was the leader of the Civil War and he was the one who signed the bill to end slavery after the Civil War {so you can see that the Civil War was part of slavery}. If the north lost the Civil War slaves would probably still exist today and we would have more conflicts with the south. So remember slavery is over in the US, and it was over in 1865. But it still happens in different parts of the world. One example in the world which still has slavery is Asia.

Why was it important for the north to win the civil war?

If the north hadn't won this war , we would still have slavery .

If Lincoln did not issue the 13th would slavery still be going on this very day and why?

No. The US was not the only place with slavery, and it was not the last to end the practice. Many countries in Central and South America also had slavery. All ended slavery within a generation or two after the US Civil War ended. If the Civil War had not brought things to a crisis, slavery would have ended at around the same time in the US, if not sooner, due to international pressure. There is still slavery in the world, but its done very quietly, so as not to attract international outrage, in places like Haiti, and by our very best friends in Saudi Arabia.

How do you think the north and the south could have settled their differences without going to war?

no. both seemed too stubborn to ever give up their beliefs or ways of life. the south would have never given up slavery and we possibly could still have had slavery to this day. and lincoln wanted to end slavery once he was elected president so the civil war was unavoidable.

Would there have been a Civil War if slavery was abolished?

Yes there would have been a civil war because the Union Government was pushing for certain issues that had nothing to do with slavery. Even if the South would have won the civil war slavery would have still ended. Slavery was just something brought up in discussion of arguments on the Unions comments. And to make note of something...if you read your history you will learn that the majority of the south was poor and didnt own slaves anyway. So slavery needs to be deleted as a reason the Civil War went on.There are two aspects to be considered. Firstly, the reasons for secession. These can best be referenced in the articles of secession for the various states. Secondly, the reason for the Union refusing to accept the secession. This can best be appreciated from the reasons given by President Lincoln.

What did the south fear the north would do?

Completely Destroy Them then especially the African Americans feared that slavery would still continue
