Unfortunately, it was a war that had to do with the ambitions of powerful and rich people, and never had to actually do with the common man.
Pros:
- It added new territory to the US
- It helped establish the US as a world power
Cons:
- It was a conflict for the benefit of slave owners (see related questions)
- It was the source of the American Civil War
- For the sake of Manifest Destiny, more than 30,000 people died on both sides
