Please check your coin again. All 2006 nickels show a picture of Monticello on the back."Bison" nickels were minted in 2005. If that's what you have, it's only worth face value if you got it in change. A nice uncirculated one might bring 50¢ to $10 depending on its quality.
No person is on the back of current US nickels. Thomas Jefferson is on the FRONT. Nickels made from 1938 to 2004 and from 2006 to the present have a picture of Jefferson's home, Monticello. Nickels made in 2005 and 2006 have various images honoring the Lewis and Clark expedition bicentennial.

Liberty Head nickels were minted from 1883 to 1912. A 2006 nickel is only worth face value; it and all other US nickels minted since 1938 have carried a picture of Thomas Jefferson.

So many were made that most uncirculated 2006 US nickels retail for less than 50 cents. Very high quality strikes (MS64 and above) can retail for $2 to $15, though.
It's not clear what's meant by "standard" nickels. The special Lewis and Clark commemorative nickels were only minted during 2004 and 2005, and a new design for Jefferson's portrait was adopted in 2006. Until the Mint authorizes another design change, the 2006 and later design is the new standard.
