If you have installed a game update, you may need to start from scratch. I updated Rainbow 6 Vegas and couldn't restart from a checkpoint but had to restart the level instead. Didn't need to restart from the beginning of the game though. From Notty71

If youhave the "Halo 3 Mythic" it does not let you play campaign but if you have "halo 3" your disc is broken but on halo 3 mythic campaign isn't on that disc. Add me on xbox live im Mr quiggels

Use the Campaign disk, and click on campaign. Then a menu will pop up, here you can add another player, change the difficulty, and choose which mission to start on. Just go down to where it displays your mission and either click on it, or go over on the joystick until you find the mission you wish to start at. Then let it load and click start game.
