Well not really sure but I have purchased a ignition control module and I am going out to install it on my 1996 Jeep in about 10 min. I hope the other threads i read are right that when you replace the distributor there is no timing adjustment required (it does kinda make sense) it's all done through the pcm/ecm. The ignition control module is mounted under your distributor cap and attached to your distributor. I have also replaced my crank sensor and the jeep started fine and sounded real good then I turned it off once the engine was hot and BAM right back to the no crank.
I remembered then that on 1980 model cars the OEM ignition control module used to cause this same problem when the RTV that was on the back of them breaks down and the module grounded to the distributor or if the module went bad. When the cars engine was hot it would hesitate or die. Removed the module and applied clear RTV problem gone. I am betting this part will fix my problem. So I purchased the distributor from advance auto it comes with the module pre-attached for 50 bucks. Autozone wanted about 60 bucks without the module too me that was a no brainer. Good luck to you and wish me luck
Easiest check would be the cap and rotor then move on to a bad crank sensor
FROM WHAT I HAD READ, AFTER YOU HAVE TRYED EVERYTHING YOU CAN THINK OF THEN IT IS THE SENSOR..I WOULD SAY IF IT TURNING OVER AND NOT CRANKING AND YOU HAVE FIRE, IT WOULD BE THE SENSOR.....HOPE THIS HELPED
There is no afs on a cherokee, they run on a map sensor.
spark? fuel?
There is no knock sensor on a 94 4L jeep engine. In 1991 when they changed to the 4L HO motor, they removed the knock sensor from the system.
The Oxygen Sensor on a 1989 Cherokee 4.0L is on the exhaust pipe on the left side of the engine just below the exhaust manifold. You can see it from above but you must replace it from below. It is pretty easy to reach. I recently changed mine and it took only 10 minutes using an O2 sensor wrench.
A 1998 Jeep Cherokee does not have a mass airflow sensor. It uses a manifold pressure sensor, MAP, which is on the rear of the intake manifold.
I have a '96 jeep grand Cherokee and mine was recalled for a faulty O2 sensor and catalytic convertor. That might be the problem, because after getting those fixed, i get 15 mpg instead of 13.
The cam sensor is in the distributor.
The sensor is not adjustable.
