Could be a hose leak, a radiator leak or a head gakket leak. The water in the reservoir will get "sucked" into the cooling system if the level get low. Look for water on the ground or signs of spray under the hood. If it's a head gasket, look for water dripping from the exhaust pipe on start-up and/or steam. That would indicate that water is getting into the combustion chamber.
it sounds like its clogged.
Because you dont have the engine running
THAT MEANS THE RADIATOR IS GETTING HOT, Probably you mean Why isn't the radiator getting hot. could be becaused the thermostat isn't opening or the house to the radiator is disconnected or there is no coolant in the radiator,
== == Sometimes it is not actually "boiling", but bubbling. Start by getting a new radiator cap. It is the first thing you should do, and is easy. *MAKE SURE YOUR CAR IS NOT HOT WHEN REMOVING A RADIATOR CAP* When air enters the closed/pressurized cooling system, the air ends up in your reservoir tank and bubbles the top. Sometimes(depending on vehicle) it will even exit the reservoir tank through an overflow hose and appear to be a leak. Hope this helps! Chris not enough water or coolant in radiator.
Ford: 7.3 diesel fuel getting into the radiator
Yes, I had to do the same on my 1.9L DOHC 1992 Saturn, I had a small leak in my radiator and can tell you this works well for a while but is not the ultimate fix, my leak keept getting bigger and bigger until y finally had to spend some money and put a new radiator
Because your radiator is not getting much air forced through the radiator, the only air cooling your system is the air the fan pulls through the radiator. When you travel down the road air is also forced through the radiator causing more cooling.

Chris Hey L==Either the engine coolant level is extemely low or the temp sending unit is incorrect. Make sure the radiator is full of coolantWHEN THE ENGINE IS COOL. If it still does it, have the temp gauge checked. GoodluckJoe
On the dash the indicator light looks like a square box that looks like a radiator with a wavy line that looks like water and has an arrow pointing down telling you the radiator water is down. If the coolant reservoir is full, the float is stuck. Simply remove the 10mm screw that holds it down, lift it up with hoses attached and shake it until the light goes off. OR, you can check the float by getting a small wire, unplugging the float wire harness from the coolant reservoir and putting both ends of the little wire in the wire harness plug. If the light goes out... shake the coolant reservoir...it is stuck.
The difference between Source and Reservoir is that source is a major thing from which we receive a product or necessities. It is a direct way of getting our daily needs.EXAMPLE:The fishes we get from rivers, the water we get from waterfalls, were reservoir is a area where we can store and use the products from sources.it is an indirect way of getting our needs.EXAMPLE:The fish we get from markets, the water we get from Dams..
it's getting too cool, really
Probably getting oil in the radiator from transmission cooler that runs through one side of the radiator, outside chance of head gasket problem.
