If you have I-94, it means you are in US on non-immigrant visa and normally when you are in US with non-immigrant visa and have it extended altogether 12 months, you cannot change your status in US, you have to leave.
To be eligible to obtain a greencard you must be eligible in one from four category; family based, employment based, diversity visa, asylees and refugees. Check with the Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) office at www.uscis.gov
