Yes. The bill can be sent to collections, who will normally try and come to a payment arrangement with you to pay off the account. You may lose service/benefit for a short time so that the bill can not be increased in the meantime.

If you're paying a med debt every month miss 1 month but send them the money you would have paid can they just send it to collections even though you already told them that you'll continue to pay?

Promises don't matter. Until the money is in their hands, the debt is unpaid and they can turn you over to Collections. With today's economy as it is, people are being sent to Collections for accounts just a day or two overdue.

Is there a grant to help pay past due medical bills?

Not that I know of, but try this. Send them money, anything that you can afford, even if its only five dollars a month. If they refuse payment, they nullify the bill. Just make sure you try to pay something on the bill per month. Even if you owe 50 thousand dollars, as long as you pay something, they cant send it to collections.

If you are paying 100.00 monthly on a 1500.00 hospital bill is it legal for them to send you to collections?

I dont know what state you are from, but in Indiana as long as you are paying something then they aren't going to do anything. They will call and call and call........, but they wont do it. Besides IF they send you to collections then they wont get all of their money. Just call and talk to the payment office( what ever that is called). Jst say "look I am paying all that I can. Is it allright to send in a 100 a month?" They will work with you. Hope this helps you. KSPEER3: I AM FROM INDIANA AS WELL AND AM A PAYING CUSTOMER TO A HOSPITAL AND APPARENTLY I AM NOT PAYING THEM AS MUCH AS THEY WOULD LIKE AND ARE THREATENING TO SEND ME TO COLLECTIONS IF I DO NOT PAY THEM WHAT THEY WANT, WHICH IS $250 A MONTH FOR $2000. (NOT HAPPENING SO I GUESS I WILL GO TO COLLECTIONS)..THEY HAVEN'T SENT ME YET. I HAVE NEVER BEEN SENT TO A COLLECTION AGENCY SO IT IS SCARY TO THINK THAT THEY WOULD DO THAT, ESPECIALLY AFTER MY INSURANCE PAID A HUGE CHUNK AS WELL AS MYSELF. I HAVE BEEN PAYING THEM FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS NOW AND THEY ARE POPPING THIS ON ME NOW. I CALLED THEM, AREN'T WILLING TO WORK WITH ME, TRIED THE CHARITY ASSISTANCE BECAUSE I QUALIFIED, AND GOT A DENIAL LETTER, STATING THEY HAVE EXHAUSTED THEIR CHARITY CARE FOR THIS YEAR AND I CAN REAPPLY IN 2013, THIS IS MAY, REALLY, IT'S EXHAUSTED ALREADY? I HAVE BEEN TO THREE HOSPITALS IN THE STATE OF INDIANA, AND THIS PARTICULAR ONE IS THE WORST, THE OTHERS DON'T BOTHER YOU AND LET YOU PAY WHAT YOU CAN. I WON'T NAME THE HOSPITAL BUT I WON'T GO THERE AGAIN. GOOD LUCK, I'M IN THE SAME BOAT AS YOU.

Can an account be sent to collections if you are making monthly payments?

Yes, an account can still be sent to collections even if you are making monthly payments. If the payments are not meeting the agreed terms or if the creditor believes the account is at risk of defaulting, they may send it to collections to recover the debt. It's important to communicate with your creditor and try to negotiate a manageable payment plan to avoid the account being sent to collections.

My landlord told me to put the gas bill in my name for our duplex and I found out that there is only one gas source for the entire building So I am paying for both tenants is this legal I live in MO?

No, it's not legal. Write him a letter saying that he can't do that, then deduct the gas bill from your rent each month, and send him a check for the remainder.

How long can you be late on your cell phone bill before they disconnect it?

Most companies will give you ten days to pay it, then they'll send reminders etc. They'll usually suspend or disconnect you within a month. If you're having difficulty paying a bill - TALK to them ! They'd much rather reach a compromise than lose you as a customer !
