You should keep the orriginal t-stat in the motor, the computer isset up to controll the engine according to A certain temp. If you are taking about A t-stat for the fan, It should come on around the operating temp of the engine or A little earlier for high perf vehicles.
Disconnect the battery and drain the coolant.
The original equipment thermostat should be a 195 Degrees F
Stay at the factory temp.
195 to 210 what temperature thermostat do you have
should be 195 to 210 normal operating temp
If you have re-filled the coolant and checked for leaks no wait time is necessary
Yes, replacing the heater core should slove the problem.
If the car is overheating or if the temperature gauge is not coming up to normal operating temperature which is normally half way up the gauge then the thermostat needs replacing. As the water pump should be replaced at the same time as the cam belt every 90,000 miles, you should also replace the thermostat and coolant. If the car is overheating or if the temperature gauge is not coming up to normal operating temperature which is normally half way up the gauge then the thermostat needs replacing. Yes, but the good news is that you don't have to drain it all. Don't just let it pour out on the ground. Draining about a gallon should lower the level enough to replace the thermostat.
The jiggle valve's a small hole on the thermostat itself (not a separate part). It's merely there to help free the system of trapped air. Follow the hose from the top of the radiator to the motor and you should find the thermostat housing. Removing the housing will reveal the thermostat and at the top of the Tstat should be a small hole -- that would be the jiggle valve (if your thermostat actually has one).
As far as I know, it should have a gasket. Make sure to use gasket sealer as well when replacing it.
I suspect that either your thermostat is plugged with debris from the radiator change or that the thermostat was replaced backwards. The spring side should be towards the block.
