When you sell it, you have to fill out info on the title. There should be a place on the title if you want to include a lien - check and see. Then, take the title to the division of motor vehicles.

What happens if you do buy a car or motorcycle that has a lien against it and you want to register it and you got the car with a bill of sale?

you will have to find out who has a lein on it have them fill out a fourm of lein satisfy. In most states a lien holder is recorded on the title and the lien holder will keep the title until the lien is paid off. After the lien holder is paid off, they will sign the title to release the lien and give/send the title to the owner. The title office can tell you who has a lien on the title.

What does have a solid title on a vehicle mean?

A clear title without a lien or if it has had a lien on it, either a release on the title if there is a place for it or a lien release from the bank or person named in the lien. It should be in your name, meaning you are the person on the front of the title and the back should be clear until you transfer it to the person you are selling it to or whatever the business is you are doing with it.

You are selling your motorcycle to a guy making payments How do you release yourself of liability with out signing over the title?

Check with the Secretary of State in your area to confirm you can be the lien holder for the vehicle. Assuming you can, simply sell the vehicle to the buyer, and list yourself as the lien holder on the title. It would be a good idea to utilize a contract to outline payments and if you require the buyer to maintain insurance on the bike until the lien is satisfied. Hope this helps. DealerOffices.com

How risky is it to buy a motorcycle with lien from a parking garage for non payment?

You will not be able to get the title in your name or get it registered. Tell the seller he needs to satisfy the lien before you will buy the motorcycle.

You are buying a motorcycle with a Bill of Sale only and wanted to know if you could get a title for it?

I would not buy it unless the seller can prove that there is not a lien against it and that he has the legal right to sell the bike. If he is selling it with a Lien against the title, you will be unable to take ownership until that lien is paid off by the original owner. This is a huge, huge, huge hassle that you will not be able to win unless you are willing to put a TON of time and monetary resources toward. In my opinion, not worth it... move on and get a bike with a legal title in the sellers hand.

If the lien holder was supposed to repossess a motorcycle but never did can you sell it and how do you obtain a title?

No. A vehicle cannot be sold without a clear title and the only way to obtain such a document is through the lien holder.

If you are selling a car and the purchaser is paying payments on the car can I be lien holder until they pay the car off?

If the car is still financed then that financier would be the lien holder. If you already hold title then you could technically be the lien holder and keep the title until the buyer pays it off but you would be held responsible for any registration related charges while it's still in your name.

What if I never received the title to my motorcycle because I filed bankruptcy and didn't pay the motorcyle off but the lien holder didn't come get the motorcycle.?

The motocycle is not yours. You must write to the lien holder and ask them if they have any ojection to you disposing of it.
