Starter solenoid? Follow the + battery cable - connects to solenoid - may be at the inner fender wall
The starter on a 1965 classic mustang is located on the passenger side of the engine at the rear. You should be able to follow the red battery cable to the starter solenoid (relay) and then down to the starter ::AverageJoeResto.com::
The starter solenoid is close to the battery of your car. Follow the red battery cable to reach the solenoid. Use your car's manual for any help.
I am not completely sure on why you battery in your Mustang would be smoking only when connected to the starter. I would take into a shop and have them look at it.
The solenoid is on the driver side fender well next to the battery. You can buy one at kragen or another automotive store for around $20.
When mounted on the inner fender its the one on the left, ie the one closest to the battery.
where is the shift solenoid located on a 2002 ford mustang 6 cyl?
I was looking at the 2006 Ford Mustang Owner Guide and it shows : For the 4.0 liter V6 : Motorcraft BXT-96R Battery ( with High Electrical content ) Motorcraft BXT-40R
Connect the positive battery terminal directly to the starter. You'll need a new, longer cable to reach it.
You may have a weak battery, try jump starting it with another car or battery.
Solenoid could be installed incorrectly. Could be electrical connection on the solenoid. Did you re-connect the battery? Could be a bad starter motor...or a stuck starter motor. Sometimes a light tap or two on the starter motor (not the solenoid) with a hammer will free it up.
That solenoid is a momentary solenoid. If it is used constantly it will get hot.
