Yes. However, I would check the other components first. Check the fan relay and temperature sensor, and if that is not the problem then check the fan itself. Also, it could be a leaky head gasket, which causes air to be pumped into the cooling system, thus overheating it. Yes, but.... there are several things that can cause overheating on a water cooled vehicle. The water pump, not enough water or coolant in the system or not the proper mix of water and coolant. The fan could be weak or failing, there could be a problem with a hose... sometimes a hose will weaken and be sucked closed by the engine and you would not know because it only does so under pressure. You may have the wrong temperature thermostat installed. Check all of these points to be sure.
Check the thermostat first. I had an intermittent overheating problem on my 02 for almost a year, changed the thermostat and it never happened again. If that doesn't work, secondly I would check the water pump.
are the cooling fans coming on
I would start with checking your thermostat and thermostat housing. See if its regulating. If it is not replace the thermostat.
check your heater core is it overheating?
It MAY help with the overheating problem....but you really need to find out why it's overheating. Blown head gasket, stuck thermostat, bad water pump, fan not coming on, etc.
Could be the water pump is not working properly.
Your radiator might have a small pinhole in it, causing it to not build up pressure.
I'm not a mechanic but, I had to replace my radiator to fix the overheating problem on my 1994. That was the last thing I replaced after replacing the water pump, thermostat, and replaced my fan with a clutch fan. have not had anymore problems with it overheating once the radiator was replaced. Flush the coolant first then replace the radiator. Hope this helps.
is it leaking anywhere? Can you be more specific other than overheating. I had the same problem 2 weeks ago. I fixed it.
The most common cause of overheating is a thermostat stuck in the closed position. However, other causes are: faulty water pump, clogged radiator, clogged hose(s), coolant leak or a broken drive belt. I had a 1987 legend with around 160K that was overheating. Antifreeze would boil out of the overflow. I changed my radiator and it fixed the problem.
Take your thermostat out and put everything back together, run your car without a thermostat... If your car no longer overheats, replace your thermostat.
my jetta keeps overheating so i replaced the thermostat hoping that was the problem but know there telling me it might be the water pump check it out maybe its that
