Best Answer

No. However, you can copy the contents from one partition to the other, delete the partition, and expand your remaining partition to use the remaining space.

What is meat by partitioning?

It means to make a single Hard Drive into many. When you buy any hard drive it is used normally as one partition. After you format it you can change the partitioning into different sizes you want. You can make a 500 gig hd into five 100gig partitions (it would show up as 5 different hd icons) or two 250 gig partitions, (it would show up as 2 hard drives) etc. The down fall of having partitions is if the hard drive died ALL the partitions die with it. The partitions are still part of ONE hard drive.

How can you tell how many partitions your hard drive has?

You will need to open up the disk management window on you computer. To do this open up the control panel and search for "partition" then click the link that says "Create and format hard disk partitions". From here you can view and modify all the partitions on any disk on your computer.

How many logical drives can be created on a fat drive?

When you partition a hard drive into two or more partitions (storage areas) those extra drives are called logical drives. So you can have 2 or 3 or more logical drives on one physical hard drive. It varies.

Why is it important to not store a back up of drive c on another partition on the same hard drive?

Because a physical failure of the hard drive would wipe out the backup. 2.When a Hard drive crashes, most likely all partitions go down and you will have lost your data and your backup. Back up to another media and, for extra safety, store it at an off-site location.

What is the drive letters of the computer?

Drive letters are merely an abstraction provided by the operating system to make it easier to identify specific hard drives. Indeed, the name "drive letter" is a actually a misnomer because it is the partitions upon the hard drive that are identified by those letters, not the hard drive itself. That is, a single hard drive may be divided into one or more partitions, each of which is assigned a drive letter. By default, drives a and b are reserved for floppy disk drives while the primary partition of the first hard drive is assigned drive letter C. Early versions of Windows had to be installed on partition C, however later versions could be installed on any partition. Not all operating systems use drive letters which are predominantly a feature of Windows operating systems and DOS-based systems. Linux and other Unix-based systems use a more precise identifier whereby drives are identified by labels such as hda2, sdb1 or fda0. The first two letters are an acronym that describes the type of drive, such as hd (IDE hard-disk), sd (SATA drive or, generally, a SCSI drive) and fd (floppy drive). Physical drives of the same type are then labelled a, b, c and so on, and the partitions upon those drives are numbered 0, 1, 2 and so on. Thus the label "hda2" refers to the third partition of the first IDE hard-drive.

Why can you only make 2 partition in windows 9x using Fdisk?

You are NOT limited to only two partitions in Windows 98. When you run FDISK, make a primary partition and then create an extended partition. Depending on the size of your hard drive and the size of the partitions you would like to create (without exceeding the 127G barrier, BIOS dependent) you may create as many partitions within the extended partition as you would like. After creating both the primary partition and the extended partitions you must reboot and then format each partition. Keep in mind that for every partition letter, Windows will use 8K of memory. You may want to edit your Config.sys file and change lastdrive=z to 2-3 letters beyond the drive letters assigned to your hard drive partitions, CD/ DVD drives and any flash drives or other removable storage you are using. It is rare that you would need 26 drive letters, so save yourself some system resources, especially since Windows 98 (SE) is limited to 512MB. Hope this helps.

What is an hda on Linux?

It is the 6th partition of you primary IDE hard drive. hd stands for hard disk ( Please note that in case of SCSI the names would be sd) Disks are numbered as hda, hdb, hdc and so on partitions are numbered as 1, 2, 3 and so on So hda1 is the first partition on first hard disk and hdb2 is the second partition on second hard disk.
