1998 ford explorer transmission reverse won't engage, acts like it is in neutral.
Check the transmission fluid. From your description, it sounds like it is low.
the reverse switch in the transmission
check transmission fluid, make sure it is all the way into reverse and make sure the emergency brake is not engaged.
It is inside the pintal switch mounted to the top of the transmission. goes over the shift lever.
It can cause it to only have second and reverse gears.
Probably the reverse switch is bad or out of alignment. You'll need a manual to find the reverse switch. It'll be somewhere on the shifter, on the transmission, or possibly somewhere in between.
probly a bad torque convertor. if a dealers does it figure a grand for it.
Check transmission fluid and fill to mark on dipstick. If this doesn't help, expect to replace the transmission.
My daughters 1997 Saturn SC2 coupe automatic transmission has no reverse? what would cause this?? and how can i fix it without replacing the transmission.
The backup light switch is mounted on the transmission casing.
Switch is on the drivers side of transmission, just above the transmission oil pan front corner. It is angled back about 45 degrees and has a 3 wire plug.
