Sounds like a leak on the suction side of your equipment.
Cartridge is not installed correctly or you have a crack in the manifold allowing dirty water to pass by the filter.
The hose that leads to the water pump area is the return.
the reason for water coming out from under the dash is that a hose could have broke or you have a problem with your heater. your heater works off of the water in the radaitor and since it gets hot from the motor well it serculates threw the heater and that's who your heater works
Check your heater hoses, that's where the water ciruclates into the heater from the water pump.
You do not have to turn the heater on until you are ready to heat the water, some installers put a tee or bypass before the heater so the water does not go thru the heater many do not since the heater is on the clean side of the filter, some people just want a bypass valve their in case the heater fails they can keep the water flowing around the heater, Take the cover off, start the filter up, start vacuumimg, when ready add your chemicals. continue running the filter get your water tested, when you feel you are about ready too swim turn the heater on too warm the water if you desire to.

It sounds like there is a crook seal in there some where.
Heaters are usually plumbed in after the filter. The pool filter/pump is what circulates the heated water. Ans: The heater will not work or fire if the pump is not running.
Heater core? Inlet or outlet hose fitting at heater core?
its the heater core. but its not clogged. its cracked
You may need a new valve especially if you have tried or have succeeded in moving the valve position while the pump was running.
The return hose for the heater core generally leads back the the water pump. The inlet for the heater core comes from the engine.
