Back in the 1950's, when I was a kid, my dad would bring wool soap home from work. He was working as a bus driver for a convent, taking nuns back and forth from the convent to St. Anthony's hospital in Columbus, OH. They would often give him stuff that was donated that they couldn't use, and wool soap was one of those things. It came in rectangular bars, translucent orange, and about twice as big as an ordinary bar of soap. The stuff was very harsh, and would sting like crazy if you got it in your eyes. I asked him once why they called it "wool soap", and he said "maybe it's made out of wool." That's all I know about it.
