Mine's a refurbished one that a friend of mine gave me as a Christmas gift, but even though I haven't had the problem, I'd recommend that you take it to a computer technician or repair specialist, I also wouldn't advise that you try to "force" it to extend to it's fullest, as far as I can see, my base is made of plastic so it might break.
