you need to find out where that coolant is going. is it leaking out? do you find puddles under the truck when its parked? can you smell burning coolant? if not, your next check is to pull the oil dipstick and get a look at the engine oil. if its milky like thick creamed coffee then you've found your problem, you've got a cracked head gasket. in any event i would think that if you are constantly low on coolant your engine would be overheating. good luck, tweek

I just had one in the shop here. You may also notice that your coolant guage shows lower than it used to. This is likely a coolant temperature sensor, located on the back of the cylinder head. It is very important to remember to check the pigtail when changing the sensor because corrosion is what usually wrecks the sensor in the first place. If this happened after rapid acceleration, it is possible that a sensor indicated an increase in the engine coolant temperature. It can result in a "service engine soon" light. Folks at Auto Zone have a hand-held computer that can read the code and they can re-set the light. If this is done, please keep an eye on the temperature gauge. It is possible that the mix of anti-freeze/anti-boil to water ratio in the coolant system needs to be changed. (increase the anti-freeze).
Clean The System?
Many times the hvac system needs a simple service upgrade if it does not work properly. Take the filter out and clean it, or replacing it would be even better. Check all of the wires to make sure none are frayed or need replaced. Then you should check the thermostat to be sure the temperature settings are the same before using the system. Get coolant in the hvac unit for summer, and have the heating coils checked for the winter.
