Something has happened there. If it isn't in all the way it can do that.

Over the counter prescriptions just dull the actual pain your transmission is feeling. Check the fluid in the transmission before pouring anything in it.
Remove the bolts but be prepared for alot of transmission fluid pouring out. You will need a large drain pan.
If your Toyota has a manual transmission, the fluid will be put in by removing the gearshift, and literally pouring the fluid into the cavity under the shifter.
Thru the transmission dip stick. You will need a nice sized funnel, with a big mouth and a small base for faster pouring but any will due as long as it fits.

Transmission fluid is filled by pouring the fluid directly into the dipstick tube. Be careful to put fluid in the correct dipstick. The transmission dipstick is located on the passenger's side, closest to the firewall (the cab). Remove the dipstick, use a funnel and fill.
There is supposed to be a gap there to access the flex plate. More than likely the front seal on the transmission has gone bad or the torque converter has a leak in it.

I'm assuming you want the phrase "pouring in" and not just the word "pouring." Rain is pouring in through the hole in the roof. Whenever she takes over a company, money just starts pouring in.

generally this means that the seals are worn and either need to be replaced or could be more cost efficient to replace then entire unit.
