That style of distributor cap SHORTS out inside of the molding where you can't see it with the naked eye. Replace cap and rotor with a factory one from the Chevy dealer only.
First of all you need to remove the #6 plug and install a compression gauge in it's place and check cylinder compression, You should have at least 125 PSI to 150 PSI reading on that cylinder. You should always compare the reading in the cylinder beside #6 too.
If you have under 90 PSI. in #6 then you either have a burnt valve are piston, broken valve spring, bent push rod.
If you don't find your problem in this area, then please ask your question again.
You didn't brake #6 plug installing it ???

How do you know which coil is bad on a 99 Monte Carlo if the car has a coil pack?

AnswerLightly spray the exhaust manifold with water as the engine is running A good cylinder will evaporate the water quickly The misfiring cylinder will not. Replace the coil at the other end the spark plug wire from the bad cylinder You can remove the suspect coil and switch it with a good coil and see if the two cylinders that were firing are now misfiring and the two that were misfiring are now firing. If the coil pack is not working correctly then your car will be sluggish and should throw a misfire trouble code (check engine light). Usually only one coil will fail at a time. You can have the code scanned at autozone for free. They will also test your coils if you have them off the car. Always check your plugs and wires first before replacing the coil.

2001 grand am se 2.4 cylinder1 is misfiring you changed the plugs and boots what else could it be?

There are several things that can cause your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am 2.4 liter engine to misfire. The next thing you should change will be the fuel injectors.

What is engine misfiring?

An engine misfiring simply means that one or more of the cylinders are not compressing and/or igniting the fuel mix like it should. This could be because of a malfunctioning fuel injector, spark plug, it could also be that there is not enough compression in the cylinder to ignite properly, and it could also be an electrical malfunction virtually anywhere wlse in the electrical system.

Will a snap on scanner tell you which cylinder is misfiring on a 1997 5.4 liter Triton?

Any of the good code readers should tell you which cylinder is miss fireing.

Could an exhaust issue on a 4-cylinder engine cause it to misfire?

A misfire caused by the ignition system exhausts unburned fuel into the exhaust system that enters the catalytic converter and causes its temperature to rise dramatically. An exhaust issue could cause for cylinder 4 to misfire. The camshaft lobes, which are responsible for opening and closing the intake and exhaust vales, are another source for a misfire and rough running engine. The cam lobes for the No. 4 cylinder should be inspected to see if they have been worn down due to lack of oil or other mechanical problem. A damaged camshaft lobe will not allow a valve to open properly if at all.

What is misfire on number 3 in 03 sunfire?

This means that spark plug number 3 is misfiring. You may just need a new plug. Replace #3 and see what happens. If your check engine light has been on, it should go off after a few miles with new plug.

Why is cylinder no 6 on 99 Chevy Tahoe misfiring Plugs and wires are new?

If your engine has a distributor cap then I would replace the cap and rotor with a FACTORY OEM. Cap and that should fix your problem. Now if you have the new stayle engine that don't have a distributor cap then I would replace the coil that is mounted on the top of the valve cover for the #6 cylinder.

What can you do when you have a misfire in one of your engines cylinders?

You need compression, spark and fuel. The misfire cylinder is missing one of those. Do a compression test to see if the valves and rings are okay, all cyinders should be within 10% of each other. Pull the spark plug out of the suspected cylinder, if the plug is wet it probably does not have spark. If the plug is dry it probably is not getting fuel (port injected engine).
