Under the dash where the brake pedal rests there should be a switch that the pedal hits when it is released, push it in with your hand, if the lights go out then it needs to be adjusted out toward the pedal by loosening the jam nuts on either side and threading them back. If the lights dont go out then that switch will need to be replaced.
I had this problem until yesterday. Just push the armrest up. When you have it pushed all the way up to the seat back....push harder. It's that easy.
Please do not hold me to this, but this is my best guess. There has been on other GM models I have worked on, a sensor for this located down by the brake pedal. Look underneath the dash where the break pedal goes into the firewall. The switch should be there. Getting the E-clip that holds it on can be a bit of a pain.

Alecia, Sounds like the switch near the brake pedal is sticking. Check the switch and the pedal height adjustment. I know it sounds complicated but it really isn't. This problem should be fixable with adjustments to the switch and/or brake pedal. . John In Montana I had the same problem. There is a plastic piece on the brake pedal that pushes a solenoid when the pedal returns to the upright position. Its a round white piece about 1/8 inch thick. If it is completely missing you will only see the hole where the piece fits. As a quick easy and cheap fix I simply superglued a penny over the hole. Not the best looking fix but it helped keep my battery from draining.
