There are a couple possibilities to look at first. Sometimes it's just a little air and fuel is not getting through yet, if that's the case, try a little starting fluid to get the engine running for a few seconds. While a helper is cranking the engine, give the air intake a couple short, 1 second sprays of starting fluid. When the engine starts, just use enough starting fluid to keep it going. IF it's just an air bubble it should work it's way out within a few seconds. On the other hand, sometimes when a vehicle runs out of fuel some of the sediment and grit from the bottom of the tank works it's way into places you don't want. There is a screen around the fuel pump in the fuel tank. If the screen gets plugged from sediment, you won't be driving until you get it cleaned out. The sediment can sometimes work past the screen and into the fuel filter. If the filter is plugged you'll need to take care of that before you can drive. Then there is always the possibility that it didn't REALLY run out of fuel, was just low and something else is wrong... hope that isn't the case.
An engine which cranks but will not start is not receiving enough fuel or has no spark. A clogged fuel filter or bad spark plugs often cause this problem.
Engine cranks but doesn't start.
Timing belt
No, The compression test is done as the starter cranks the engine
Check engine compression Check engine timing
The engine needs fuel, compression and spark to run, it is missing one of those.
