No, she doesn't need them. The vets will/should give her antibiotics, and she should be fine. Please don't give her any medication she doesn't need.

Are mares ever spayed?

Yes, mares can be spayed. Every year a few mares are spayed but most mare owners choose to leave a mare intact in case they want to breed her. Mares that are the best candidates for spaying are those with poor conformation, genetic disease's, cross breeds, and those with hormonal problems that lead to aggression and pain.

Is it safe to have a nine year old cat spayed?

VERY safe. Speak with your vet about spaying an older cat. Your vet may want to do simple blood tests to check for kidney functions and liver enzymes, but your cat should do fine. The vet may want to keep kitty over night just in case something happens, but older cats do quite well under anesthesia and come out with flying colors after the surgery. Thank you for being responsible and spaying your pet.

Vitiman C for a cats cold?

How do cats get pregnant?

By mating. Similar to the way humans do. If your cat is an outdoor/indoor cat and hasn't been neutered/spayed, then they'll almost always find a mate; even if you don't know of another cat of the opposite gender in the area.

How do i persuade my parents to get me a cat my mom is scared of ALL animals and my dad doesnt want to pay for vet visits?

Show your mom that cats aren't harmful at all, they're cute and friendly, and tell your dad that you can get a really healthy cat and if you take care of them, you won't need to pay for vet visits. Well, maybe the spaying/neutering, but sometimes if you show someone a cat, they'll like him/her enough to pay for that one visit to get him/her fixed.

What pain meds are available for people who have chronic pain and addiction?

Unfortunately for those who have history of addiction, access to pain meds is difficult, unless there is conclusive evidence for the reason causing the pain. For example, I've had 3 spinal fusions, and my underlying disease is enough proof that my pain is real. But addictive behavior in the past is a red flag for doctors, and most are unwilling to prescribe pain meds to anyone with such problems, be it narcotics, alcohol, etc. Nicotine is different though, but don't ask me why. In such cases, as I said the reason for the pain must be conclusive (injury, disease, etc.), and finding a pain doctor won't be easy. Keeping a Pain Diary is also a must - real pain can't easily be faked, and any good doctor will be able to tell if an addict is BS'ing or not. It comes down to a trust and legal issue for pain doctors. They are under tremendous pressure from Federal regulations to both help people and keep controlled substances away from those who have been abusers, and they're not easily willing to put themselves at risk without concrete reasons. Even hospitals are extremely conservative with pain meds and those who are known addicts. It's important to understand the difference between dependence and addiction also. Those of us who are opiate dependent have a valid, medical need for our meds. Addiction is defined by its mental component - the addict uses a substance to escape from life or social situations they don't want to face, not for any real medical need (avoiding withdrawals doesn't count).

Why do pain management doctors do drug testing?

All doctors do drug testing sometimes, but pain management doctors have to be especially careful because they prescribe lots of narcotics and they have to be sure what the patients are on to prevent a bad interaction, or possible overdose.

How do you get doctor to give pain meds?

The last thing you want to do is ask up front - in today's climate, even with the medical community more aware of opiates as a viable therapy, simply asking for pain meds will likely get you tagged as a drug seeker, and it'll really hamper yourself in the long run if you've got real pain issues. If you've got real problems, then start keeping a Pain Diary. PD's are commonly used by first-time chronic pain patients (and even short term acute pain patients) to document their pain over time, giving the doctor a visual record of your problem, especially if there's nothing evident on X-rays, MRI's, CT's, etc. Real pain and recording it is extremely difficult to fake - most doctors, and other pain patients like myself, can easily tell when someone is BS'ing about having pain bad enough to require pain meds. You also need to show that you've tried alternate meds and therapies, which is something most patients are willing to do; they just want a quick remedy for pain. Problem is, real pain has no quick remedy. Seeing a Pain Specialist is also preferable than a General Practitioner, since they're authorized to prescribe more pain meds than regular doctors are. Regular doctors and the groups they belong to tend to pull back from any long-term prescriptions involving pain meds that are Schedule II (Duragesic, Percocet, Morphine, etc.), and even Schedule III and IV drugs (Vicodin, Codeine mixes, etc.)

Is flea meds ok for a nursing dog?

Just like a human pregnancy, you want to consult your veterinarian. Take the flea meds that you are using in with you. Many of the over-the-counter meds are toxic to puppies, and can be trans-placental.

When you have legitamite pain and will only worsen in time but use more than prescribed meds What do I do about the severe pain if I come clean?

Do you want to come off opioids completely? It depends where the pain is but there are other options such as anti-inflammatory medications, implantable pumps, nerve blocks, etc. Also some people get relief from physical therapy, massage or acupuncture. Depending on what you take now you can switch to a long acting pain medication such as MS Contin or Oxycontin and then you would likely require smaller doses of a short acting medication for breakthrough pain. You may also need to take Methadone during the process of coming off your meds. It's very important to see a doctor who specializes in pain management or go to a pain clinic where they are experienced in dealing with different kinds of pain and medication issues. Most regular health care providers are not fluent or comfortable with managing complex pain issues especially when opioids are involved. It would be likely in that case that you would not receive adequate pain management and would end up in the same situation you are now. Good luck!
