It could be several problems...
1. bad seals on turbo
2. clogged turbo oil return to oil pan
3. waste gate issue
4. bad bearings on turbo
5. stuck rings on engine piston
6. bad valve guide seals
7. bad PVC valve
the turbo has nothing to do with blowing the motor it's the amount of boost you run the will blow it the bigger the turbo the longer it will take spool.
The turbo is a T-25 .... comes on the gs-t and gsx

the 400 turbo is made for more pulling that's whats in my 85 gmc 2500 its just a heavy very expensive transmission.
Every part that is in the 400 is heaver and bigger then the 350. The 350 turbo is light duty, but can be modified to make it tuff. The 400 is already tough from the factory.

For regular non turbo timing is 20 degrees BTC.........For turbo it is 15 Degrees BTC
