Being close to the window will have no effect on the Betta unless the tank is getting too hot or cold. Bettas are tropical and need their water a bit warmer than many other tropicals (around 78F). If your tank is not overcrowded (1 inch of fish needs at least 1 gallon of water) and your filter is running permanently and you are changing 50% of the tanks water every week, you are doing everything right. Maybe the fish is getting old. Bettas are short lived fish (about 2 years).
