There could be several reasons for that kind of behaviour. Is the tank lit and planted with aquascaping and a filter running and is it at least a 3 gallon capacity tank? If not, then the fish is in similar conditions to a person locked up in solitary confinement. I guess you would loose your drive and interest in life if you were shut up in a tiny confined space for ever. The other possibility is closely related to the first and could be poor water quality. My advice is to try a properly set up tank with heater, thermometer, gravel, rocks, plants, lights etc. Your fish will suddenly take an interest in life again.
You have describe how a fish sometimes behaves when it is dying. If you change its water it may still survive. You obviously either did not know the basic rules for fish keeping or have been missled on what is required to keep a fish healthy. The basic rules are :- 1 inch of fish needs at least 1 gallon of water. Every fish tank needs a cycled filter and every tank needs to have at least 50% of its water changed weekly. (A Betta should be kept in at least 3 gallons of water with a heater and a filter).
That is perfectly normal behaviour for a Betta. All fish produce ammonia so all fish need their water filtered to remove this poison. The basic rules for successfull fishkeeping are. 1 inch of fish needs at least 1 gallon of water :- Every tank must have a permanently running 'cycled' filter. Every tank must have at least 50% of its water replaced every week. If you follow the above rules your fish will stand a reasonable chance of surviving. If you don't, then I can guarantee that your fish will be constantly getting sick and will die much sooner than it should.
Betta are social fish. There is nothing wrong.

Maybe your female betta is a lesbian lol
check the PH in the water,

I heard that when breeding Bettas, The male will chase the female until they are in subjection. My new male Betta is really calm and hasn't chased her or flared up since I got him once! Is there something wrong? Any ideas or suggestions for breeding these fish?
I think your betta fish is a female. I'm assuming that it is pregnant because female betta fish have a white spot on their stomach if they're pregnant. If you have another male fish, [ but he has to be ready to mate. You can tell if he is ready if he is creating a bubble nest.] try putting them together. Before you do that, try looking for infos on them first [just in case]. I don't want things to go wrong because I might've told you the wrong things. I'm just a child that happens to take care of 2 betta fish and doesn't know about them much.. I'm not a professional of betta fish, but I found these information on the internet. I have two betta fish myself, and one lost its color.I wanted to look more info on betta fish, and learn how to take care of them better. Eventually, I learned many new things about them. Maybe you can learn more about betta fish since you are taking care of one. It's just a suggestion, but I tried looking them up on the comp and it helped me a lot. I just wanted to let you know what i have experienced. ^^ I can give you a site that tells you a lot of info about betta fish. I got most of my info about them in this site: http://www.bettatalk.com/basic_care.htm If you want to learn more about betta fish, then just go on google, and search about them. I hope this helped and hope that your betta fish is alright.^^~!
Bettas often sleep lying on one side, at the surface or resting on something. If it swims normally when awake then don't worry about it, but if the betta also seems to have trouble swimming (stuck at the surface even when it tries to dive, or unable to rise far off the bottom) then something is wrong. Usually it means you're feeding it too much and need to cut off food until it can move normally again. Their stomachs are quite tiny. It's also possible the betta is sick, and you should read websites like bettatalk to find out what you can do for them.
I have a betta fish that was quite happy until the summer was over and I also went away for vacation. When I returned, I noticed that the house was a little on the cold side and apparently, Bettas are tropical fish and need at least a temperature of 75 degrees. Also, be sure that when you are changing the water, the temperature is as close to what he was previously in, when you made the water change, and also that chlorine water has been treated before adding to the fish tank. Use a tank warmer.... Yes, i just took mine to Petsmart because my betta was literally at bottom and breathing but not eating looking like it was going to die. the answer: it's TOO COLD AND YOU NEED TO GET A BETTA WATER HEATER OR HEAT UP YOUR HOUSE. or your fish is old and dying.
If it is a male beta (long fins) then he is ready to mate. The bubbles you see are what he will, if mated, put the eggs into. there isn't anything wrong with the water, he's just horny. If it is a female's (short fins) tank, then there is probably a problem with the water.
