Check to be absolutely sure the wires are in the correct position between the plugs and cylinder. If they are out of order at all, the engine will seem like it wants to start real bad but it won't. If that isn't the cause, I'm out of ideas too. I had this problem on my Jeep - the order was right - but I had to move all the wires one position clockwise to make it go. You may need just to move the wires in the correct order to a different position on the distributor, each one or two positions.
