Unfortunately you are the one that is going to mould him for his next relationship as you are his first and the chances of this lasting seem very slim. He has to learn and if he was babied by his mother and father it will be harder as he expects things to be just given to him and done for him etc. Your best bet for yourself would be to move on and let someone else bring him up. Well I think of course men grow up. Look at the grown up men around you. If he has potential, you can always keep your eyes open and allow him to follow his course and not have your life revolving solely around him.
My "boyfriend" (more like "younger brother" now that I think of it) is to me like still a little boy too. Shy and lacking in self-confidence without much ambition or direction. Nervous when he holds me (and still doesn't really know how to)
