It is unwise to have a liner installed because the pool was not built with "concrete receptor coping. Because this strong steel bead receptor was not built into the coping, a plastic substitute must be nailed into the concrete around the top of the pool. The liner is then screwed into this piece of plastic, and the pool is filled with 200,000 to 400,000 pounds of water. The liner stretches and will usually hold the water for a year or two before it begins to tear at the top. A vinyl liner is not designed for this kind of abuse, and it will be unusable in a very short period of time.

Leaking inground vinyl liner?

First you have to find where the water is leaking. To figure that out, fill your pool to the normal water level and mark the water level on the liner. Wait a day and mark the new water level. Fill it up to the first mark then shut off all your pool equipment and wait the same amount of time. If the level drops the same the leak is in the liner, other wise it's in the plumbing. If it's your liner leaking in some cases you can grab a pair of goggles and get wet to find a hole and use a patch kit from you nearest pool dealer to patch it. Sometimes you can't find it, most pool dealers have equipment to find the leak and they can patch it. If it's in the plumbing, you could be in for a bigger problem. It may involve cutting concrete decking and a bunch of digging. You have to get to the pipe that is leaking and cut that part out and patch a new line in. Again most pool dealers have equipment to easily tell which line and where plumbing is leaking. This can save a lot of work!

Is it easy to convert from a pool liner to inground concrete?

IT IS NOT ONLY NOT EASY IT IS NOT POSSIBLE.CONCRETE POOLS ARE A CONCRETE "TANK" AND GUNITE OR SOME SIMILAR MATERIAL USED AS A SUFACE COATING . THE TANK IS MADE FIRST OF STEEL REBARS THEN THE CONCRETE IS SHOT IN PLACE GIVING YOU A CONCRETE SHELL .TO DO THIS TO A VINYL POOL THE ONLY PART YOU COULD USE WOULD BE THE HOLE IN THE GRUOND THAT YOUR VINYL POOL IS SITTING IN.IF SOMEONE TELLS YOU THEY CAN DO IT ...CLOSE YOUR CHECKBOOK AND WALK AWAY --THATS FROM SOMEONE WITH OVER 20 YRS IN THE BUSINESS. IS IT EASY TO BUILD A GUNITE POOL OUT OF A LINER POOL SHELL? A licensed swimming pool professional builder can build a new pool inside of your old shell, of course your new pool will be around 1-1.5 feet smaller. Count on demo costs with the old pool shell also. You have options with any kind of remodel job, another reason for hiring a professional with a license. So is it easy - yes, yes, But only if your the licensed swimming pool professional or you just hired one. getapool.com take care good swimming Easy? No way. As a professional pool builder that has shot gunite pool shells inside existing vinyl liner pools, I can tell you that the job is actually harder than building a pool from scratch. If your just going to shoot inside the existing hole the pool will end up being smaller as stated above and shallower as well to accommodate for the 6 inches of gunite that will be added. All of the existing returns have to be cut back and extended to allow for this, the main drain should be dug up and replaced with a gunite drain, and the skimmer should be cut out and replaced with a gunite skimmer. the deck should be cut back, but alternately coping can be installed to line back up with the existing deck. The deck will have to be cut out around the vinyl skimmer to make way for the gunite skimmer replacement, I have seen people not replace the skimmer but this leaves a good place for a future leak, I wouldn't recommend it. The plastic steps will have to be removed as well. You may want the bottom dug out so it can be made deeper and larger as the hopper area on most vinyl pools are small and tapered. It's a job to say the least, but it is possible. Cost wise it will probably run more than a gunite pool from scratch. The only things you are using over is the deck, the hole, and the plumbing. For more information go to howtobuildaningroundpool.com If you are tired of replacing your vinyl liners, why not check out fiberglass as an option. A new fiberglass surface can be applied to your pool, and you will get a much longer life out of it. You can read more at: http://www.advancedpoolcoatings.com

When was the Ocean Liner invented?

Arguably in 1838 with the christening of the Great Western, a vessel that had the first vague bits of the style, architecture and system (voyage-wise among other things) of the ocean liner.

Can you use fill to level an above ground pool?

Yes but you would probably be wise to compact it before putting the pool on it.

What is the best way to repair an in ground pool liner after water gets behind it from the pool overflowing from heavy rain causing creases and bubbling?

I havew an inground vinyl liner pool that got water behind it from a leak. The walls started to bulge from all the water behind it. I was afraid I would need to drain the pool to fix the problem. But I was told to just use a shop vac and suck it out. What I ended up using was a submersible sump pump, and a garden hose. I ran the water back into the pool, and it seemed to work. You will need to pop off some of the beading to get the draining equipment of choice behind it. It isn't too dificult, and much cheaper than hiring a pro. BUT BEWARE make sure the equipment is out beofre the vinyl is sucked back to the wall, other wise you will need to find a way to remove it a very tight liner against it. (sound like advice from experience?) good luck!

Would a 15000 gallon 4 foot deep above ground pool freeze solid over the winter in SE Wisconsin if it is covered and has a 4X8 foot pillow in the center?

That is a great question. Because it is above ground you are going to be more likely to have a solid freeze on the water in the pool. Will it happen I don't know for sure, I do not have any experience with above ground pools in that part of the country? We are mid east coast. I will not say we have never had bad winters, but in 76' it never got above freezing for over 30 days. Now we had ice on lakes that was thick enough to ice skate on probably about 6" or more thick. I even ice skated on a salt water bay. Now that is cold! You are wise to put in the air pillow, that should help keep from cracking the wall. That should help protect you from cracking the wall of the pool. When you develop ice on the pool DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES WALK OR ICE SKATE ON THE POOL! If you do it will crack the liner and you will be buying a new pool liner. The ice will be frozen to the frozen pool liner.

Can a vinyl liner pool be converted to a gunite pool and how expensive would it be compared with replacing the vinyl liner?

The answer is absolutely! Secondary market products are readily available for a conversion such as this. A plastic, resin, or fiberglass track is installed just under the top edge of the coping around the swimming pool. The track is usually attached with some sort of stainless steel screw. Rolled Wall foam can be cut into long sheets and attached to the existing plaster walls--usually with spray adhesive. The foam evens out the surface and also provides a nice "shock absorbant" pad in between the liner and the wall. Complete measurements of the existing structure need to be taken--and they need to be extremely accurate. Some of these measurements include the height of the wall, angle of slope, depth and step areas. For 99% of these conversions, a liner must be custom manufactured. I say this because you might hear an installer give you a quote for a "stock liner"--a mass-produced liner made based upon general measurements--carried in quantity at the local distributor. Conversions are rarely exact, so don't be alarmed if you have a small wrinkle or two. Expect to spend 25-50% over what a traditional liner replacement would cost. There's not too much of a difference in materials, so the cost will be mainly in the skilled labor. Definately find someone that has performed these conversions before. Don't just take their word for it. Go see the jobs--without the installer present!!!! Talk with the customers, and ask them how the installer performed. Best wishes on your project!!

Can you plant a tree near a septic system?

You can it just wouldn't be very wise. Depending on what you septic is made of and how strong whatever it's made of is, you can plant one near it. If it is made of a softer metal or concrete DONT!!!!! If it's made of a strong, non-porus metal you can because then the roots can't take hold.

How can you convert a vinyl lined swimming pool with steel walls and a sand bottom to fiberglass?

You can't, I have never heard of any one converting any type of pool. The pool has to be taken out and then you can rebuild a new pool or fill in and put new pool in a new spot cost wise it is not feasable.
