Hopefully coincidence
If the compressor has failed internally there is really nothing a backyard mechanic can do to repair it except replacement. But leaking fittings, or a bad clutch pulley can be easily done. You will need to find out which problem you have and go from there.
What will happen if u I added power steering fluid to a leaking power steering pump
If your air condition unit is leaking you can call a local mechanic who specializes in that or a company. One hour heating and air condition is a great solution and they have reasonable rates.
There may not be visible leaks, however, that does not mean that there is not a leak. A mechanic will need to run dye through the hose to determine where it is leaking.
The fluid could be leaking from the pump, hoses, or steering rack. Wash the steering system, then you can see where the leak is coming from.
You need to replace the power steering pump. If it is leaking, it is going out.
Where on the rack is it leaking? if it is a union (where the hydraulic pipes and the rack meet) then you may just need to tighten up the union, however if it is leaking from the steering rack gaitor then it isn't as quick as doing up a bolt. The only way to solve a leaking power steering rack, if it is leaking from anywhere other than a union, on the sharan (7M0) is to replace the rack, it is a fairly simple job that any practiced home mechanic with the correct tools can do. I hope this helps but if you have any other queries on this please contact me and I can answer in more detail for you.
My 1990 is doing the same thing. At work yesterday, my mechanic friend says it could be an axle or a bent rim. I'll be looking at it today and then taking it to the shop.
Perhaps water pump is leaking?
Take it to a mechanic.
It's not too difficult to find a leak if you can get the vehicle on a rack to look at it from underneath. And power steering hoses can be difficult to replace if you are not mechanically experienced and have the proper tools. Best to leave it to a mechanic.
Depends on how far you have to drive the vehicle. If the steering pump runs dry. it will become damaged and need replacement. If the mechanic is close enough to you and the pump reservoir does not run out of fluid within that driving time, it would be okay to drive to them. Most leaks in power steering occur when the steering pressure hose fails and starts leaking. Replacement of the hose is a fairly simple and easy job with your truck, and a lot less expensive than a steering pump. start your truck and have a friend turn the steering wheel while you watch the pump-steering box area under the hood. You should be able to see right away if the hose is leaking. Safety glasses reccomended.
