VSS ( Vehical Speed Sensor ) located on your transmission
check if it has a speedometer cable if not the speed sensor needs to be replaced
Speed sensor...on the passenger side of the tranny where the axle enters the transmission.
you need to change the speedometer cause if your odometer is counting then speedometer should be working too. make sure your speed gear its working its in the side of the transmission The odometer and speedometer read off of the same signal. If one works, the signal is ok and the other gauge is bad.
If the transmission a computer shifting transmission, then you need to hook up the eltronic speed sensor to be able to read speedometer. The gear reading is on the dash column, in which a wire hooks to the steering column.
I'am not sure about your vehicle, but most have a cable that runs from your speedometer to the transmission. speed is read by a gear that spins the cable. most of the time the cable is simply broken and is pretty easy to replace. if you have a digital speedometer it is usually a simple two wire cord that runs from the side of trasnsmission to speedometer. either way speed is read off the transmission on my 93 f-150 the speedometer sensor is on the third member of the rear end. I have a 1995 F150 5.8 auto 4x4. My speed sensor is on the tail shaft of the transfer case.
Check the wires on the back of the rear axle. There is a sensor there for the speedometer. If the wires break, it will not read any speed or distance. I have had to repair mine twice. The sensor is on the drivers side of the differential to the rear. Hope that is it. Figure out the anti swaybar travel when you repair the connection to the sensor
Hopefully the simple solution would be the fuse 15a for the speedometer. If the computer doesn't read the speed, the tranny doesn't know when to shift. If the fuse is alright, you then need to check the speedometer sensor located on the rear axle hub. Check connections for corrosion and cable for damage. After that, good luck !!
You need to have the code read. Go to Autozone and they will read it for free. If I had to guess I would say that your VSS sensor is either giving out or the Pcm is getting bad info from another sensor.
i would check speedometer sensor. . take car to autozone they hook up code read out for free.. speedo sensor found on tranny. and its over $100.00 dollars for part only.. easy to change if handy w/ tools and if you can find it
u might need 2 change da speed sensor which is located on da tranny on da left side or u might need 2 jus reset da computer.
The size of tires can effect that accuracy of a speedometer. Larger tires will cause the speedometer to read less than you are actually going.
read the code on the obd ,its more than likely the speed sensor,,,,thats gone out
