By far the best and lowest cost broadband high speed internet available to homes and businesses comes through the cable TV wire that is already in most every residential home and business. Of course there are some systems that may be a bit faster, but they require the special installation of a new cable that usually requires a long-term contract with rates that go up at the end of an agreed service term.

Cable TV is practically everywhere now, and the cable broadband Internet goes right along the same cable. It is faster than DSL and does not have the limits set by satellite Internet provider services. Cable Internet is sometimes available at different speeds for different monthly rates, but even the slowest cable Internet connection is blindingly fast compared to dial-up.

Installation is as simple as connecting a broadband modem to one of the cable TV wires already in the home or business, unless the cable is really old and unable to support the new signals. Plug the modem into the Ethernet port of a router or computer, and it works. Of course an account has to be set up with the Cable Television provider, but that is easy too. Most cable television providers will rent the modems to their customers. This is a good thing if anything should ever go wrong with the modem. The most likely thing to cause a modem to fail is a power surge caused by a storm.

The same cable coming into the home or business that carries the signals for all of the television stations also carries the signals for the broadband Internet. Newer digital receiver boxes communicate two ways along the cable just like the Internet modems do. The boxes send requests to get pay-per-view movies sent to the box, and the modems upload and download the Internet use through the modem. Cable TV is no longer a one way thing of just television signals coming into the home or business. Business class customers usually pay a higher price for the fastest upload and download Internet speeds capable in the system.

Cable TV providers now offer modems that handle both Internet connections and telephone service. The modem is installed and connected both to a router or computer and the home or business telephone system. The existing phones in the house connected to the already existing phone jacks now make and take calls through the cable television provider’s phone service. Usually there is a discount for having cable television, broadband Internet and telephone service from the same provider.

Do you have to ground a junction box if there is no splice?

No <<>> The NO answer above pertains to a metallic or PVC conduit system. In home wiring, with the type of wire being used it would be near impossible to drag a cable through a switch or receptacle junction box without cutting the cable. Once this cable is cut, the grounds have to be spliced together and this ground wire is then required by code to be grounded to the box.

How do i wire a laptop through a router to the internet?

first, make sure the router is wired to your dsl/cable modem (network cable is pluged on your router's internet port & the another of that goes to the port of your modem). Get another network cable, plug it to your laptop (there's one or two socket that fits that network cable on any side of your laptop), then plug the other end of the network cable to any port numbers of the rtr.....hope that'll help! ;)
